Get to know your coach, Karen Nelson!

Welcome! As well as being the owner and coach at Book It Fitness, I am a fitness enthusiast myself, staying active by running, strength and resistance training, swimming, hiking and training in mixed martial arts.  I believe that staying active should be a natural part of  everyone’s life no matter the stage. 

As a full time working single mother and business owner, I understand the unique challenges that parents, families, students, and working professionals have while trying to balance their fitness and nutrition goals with the demands of everyday life. That’s why I decided to become a personal trainer and coach. I want to help others gain the skills and confidence to meet these challenges head on and crush their health, fitness, and nutrition goals and make wellness a part of their lives. And if we have fun togethre along the way, even better!

Runner

I have participated in several races including 5Ks, obstacle races, half-marathons and a marathon and placed within my age group in a few. My most recent running success was completing the Blue Ridge Half-marathon, America's toughest road half-marathon.

MMA practitioner

I have been training in mixed martial arts for the past two years. What originally started as a way for a friend and me to stay fit during the pandemic, soon turned into a way of life and became inspiration for my new Fight Fit Program.

Librarian

As you may have guessed from the name of my business, Book It Fitness, I love books and reading. In addition to being an avid reader and researcher in my personal life, I'm a former public librarian and currently a contractor for NASA. I carry my passion for learning into my business to provide my clients with knowledgable advice and effective programming.

Coach

I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Certified Nutrition Coach, NASM Virtual Training Coach, and Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Certified Run Coach. I train clients with a variety of goals including weight loss, marathons and ultra races, military preparation, strength and mobility, and overall wellness.
